The Drive is controlled by Siemens Intelligent Stepper Module EM-253. The Siemens PLC software has a separate wizard for the stepper control Application program development. Encoders are must for the closed loop control of the Stepper.

There are rotary Encoders and Linear Encoders. Rotary Encoders are coupled with Stepper motor and gives the angle of the Stepper. Encoders range from 256, 500, 1000, 2000, 2500 and 5000 PPR (Pulses Per Revolution) etc. For each encoder there are at least 5 cables coming out from it. The two red and Black are power supply while the three are are channel A, Channel B and Channel C. Channel A and B gives continuous Pulses and detects the Direction of rotation while C gives a pulse after each rotation
